Fear Can Be Motivation..

There are really only two base human emotions, and that they say are love and fear. All our other emotions are just 'flavours' of those two.

Often the fear we experience is exaggerated. Try to look at fear from the other side of the fence.. when you go out of your comfort zone, you learn new things.. You experience things you would have never known before.. but you must leave your comfort zone to do this. The thing that stops you is fear. But having that fear is natural.. so embrace it and remember the fear you feel will enable you to experience and learn new things.. physically fear and excitement are two sides of the same coin!

I was thinking about this today.. I do back ups of my data to external drives. But what if there was a fire? All my drives need to be in a fireproof safe really.. Mmmm food for thought!

Some people..

Have an influence on your life, and they don't even know it. Many years ago I went to one of the first Internet Marketing Seminars held in the UK. It was last century (I love being able to say that) actually it was last Millennium.. somehow last century sound more credible! Anyway, that seminar blew my mind. They weren't talking so much about how much money could be made on the Internet, but more that business could actually be done on the net.. The speakers included Kirt Christensen others that I can't remember and a young man that I followed from the car park, when I was going in. I remember thinking to myself I wonder if he was attending the course.. about an hour later I saw him walk onto the stage. It was the late Cory Rudl.

I think we all follow some of his methods, as he was such a pioneer in IM. I talked to him after the 'show' he spoke quickly and enthusiastically, I liked him. I didn't realise at the time he made over $40m in one year online! Even without knowing that I was hugely impressed with his knowledge and ideas.

Sometimes you need down time..

I'm nearing a holiday.. in fact it's come around quicker than I thought it would.. great news.. Well sort of great news.. You see I suffer from this frustrating guilt thing.

I run my own company, that's great I love the challenge, the flexibility, the freedom.. but freedom has a price.. and for me that is guilt. I'm planing a holiday from the 15th March - only for a week.. But already I'm feeling guilty about taking the time off.. Arghh..

Anyway, part of my trip will be to Vegas baby! Anyone got a hotel recommendation?

Focus

Focus is important in your business. When they say remain focussed, it's easy to misunderstand and assume it means single mindedness.. Which it of course doesn't.. Focus can be ensuring that you retain the momentum that you have gained in your business.. It can of course mean to focus on a particular aspect of your business.. but it doesn't have to be. But do focus on something... I've found it's easy to gain a bit of momentum or a bit of success and spend too much time contgratulating myself .. This means you are losing focus on what you should be doing.. (whatever that is!)

Valentines Day..

Is it cynical of me to think about selling opportunities? Many of the 'gurus' pre-plan for these special days.. setting up specific sites, based on specific buying keywords around special occasions..

If like me, you are a man who forgets to buy presents on anniversaries or special days, it may be a little more difficult.. but perhaps not if it's your business to remember.. You make money and your partner gets a present in time! Everyone's a winner...

In my opinion there is such a thing as a get rich quick scheme... but what is quick? Quick is a relative term really..

If you work hard and take action, in the right business you CAN get rich quick.. But quick in my opinion is probably a couple of years..

Commitment

Success in anything you do can boil down to one thing...

Think seriously about commitment.. Are you really truly committed to what you are trying to achieve? This isn't about an interest in say, making money.. or an interest in setting up a dog training site.. This is commitment.. the sort of thing that has you working on your business when you could be doing something else, like drinking with your friends.. or watching a movie.. or a million other things..

Commitment .. it comes in giant sized packages.. and you need lots..

Eternal Student...

I was speaking with someone yesterday who reminded me of a trap that a lot of people fall into, myself included..

I call it the perpetual student trap.. We all like to learn how to do something properly, of course that is right and proper. Learning something in order to fulfil an objective is even better. For example, learning how to build a website is a good skill.. Learning how to build a website as an affiliate marketer is a very good skill..  The objective of the learning is to carry out the plan, and put your new skills to work. Too many 'students' decide to go back an learn just a little bit more, just in case they may need something extra..

It's like learning to build a bridge over a river.. You learn the skills, buy the materials, get the equipment all ready.. move it to the banks of the river and then.. You stop.. "Oh if I'd known it was that kind of water..." "I think I'd better go and learn just another method of building a bridge, just in case.."   And there the cycle starts.. and it's a vicious circle..

You need to break the cycle.. take some action.. You may only need to cross the river once.. so who cares if the bridge isn't going to stand there for 100 years! If you can't build it after trying, you'll have learnt more lessons from actually doing, than you will in a lifetime in "the classroom"

Action takers are money makers!

Seminar

John Hayes and myself of  JCH Communications did a marketing seminar today, for the South East London Chamber of Commerce.

Foundations..

As my old mentor used to say, build a business on rock, not on sand..

Being successful in any business requires hard work. But most importantly your business must be built on rock..

Attention to detail in the early days is essential.. think clearly about the future, but don't be hasty.. build your business on sound principles.. Nothing can be more true than building a new internet business.. No matter what they (whoever 'they' are) tell you, there is no short cut. The time honoured principles of best business practice will stand you in good stead.. EVEN for your internet business

Going It Alone

Going it alone is a phrase that is used to describe people who start their own business..

I think there is much to be read into that 'throw away' line..

You shouldn't go it alone.. When you decide to start your own business, having people around you, to listen to you, to bounce ideas off and to advise you - is paramount.

Don't go it alone!

Sleep

Sleep is a much maligned and over looked solution to our performances in business and on a day to day basis.

In my opinion too many people have bestowed the virtues of working hard, minimising sleep and driving hard to achieve your goals..

Step 1. Get a good night's sleep - every night

What does it really take?

To succeed?

Common traits in all winners are known to be almost incidental to the business they're in.

Enthusiasm, Self Belief, Persistence.. There is money to be made in any industry.. Self discipline I think is the hardest trait to master.. In many ways, that's why so many ex- military personnel do well in business.. Self discipline..

I'm going to look more into this..

The internet business is like any other business.. it takes work, a bit of luck agreed.. but work and persistance and belief and work.. Did I say work?

Late Post Today

Living in the UK is nice.. cold but nice.

Working on the internet is also nice..

I should imagine living on the West Coast of America is nice too..

Living in the UK and trying to attend an online seminar from the West Coast is NOT nice.. I'm going to bed now.. and getting up again at 1am.. hey ho!

All I need is the air that I breathe... etc.

Today, I need a heap load of caffeine..  At least it's not snowing..

Tomorrow I have to go and get my fancy dress outfit.. bit concerned that a 'fat' Adam Ant isn't cool.. Ah well...
